Backwaters
The backwaters are the tributaries are the main course rivers which are normally shallow with little or no current. Tamil Nadu is famous for backwaters surrounded with dense mangrove forests. The roots of these mangrove trees are only a few feet protecting the region from natural calamities if any. The backwaters are naturally formed or when the water resources are stagnated using the reservoirs, man-made backwaters are created. Backwaters are most suitable for boat riding, sporting activities like para sailing, fishing and canoeing.
